The Family Picnic!

Wow! I will always remember July 19th, 2009! That was the day when we had a huge family picnic! Everyone was there! Even Raman Veerji! So, everyone was in charge of bringing something or the other. Arvinder Chachi sent everyone an e-mail telling what to get. Some people didn't have anything, like Manjit Mamaji. But he brought something anyway. So since my family has two kids, we had to bring kid's stuff. And food too. My mom packed a huge gray box overloaded with kid's stuff! We also had some stuff adults could play too, like badminton and a BIG jump rope. And the main thing everyone had to bring was food. Wow and how much there was! There was food everywhere! I didn't know where to start eating!

So the location of the place was Lake Elizabeth. In Fremont. Since Babi Bhui lived near by Fremont, our family (My sister, mom, dad, and I) slept over at her house. And besides, my mom and Babi bhui needed to pick a spot. Other people had spots reserved. We didn't. So we drove over there the night before, and got things ready for the next day. My mom and Babi bhui had to prepare food for the picnic. I helped them until everyone told me to sleep. I wanted to wake up early so I can go with Babi bhui and my mom to pick a spot. And so I slept comfortably in the warm blankets dreaming about the next day. I woke up quite a few times at night hoping it was time to go. But each time I felt the bitter feeling of disappointment. I woke up one last time when I noticed I felt a warm feeling on my face. I opened my eyes and I noticed the sun was up! Meaning it was almost time to go! I looked at my side, and I saw my mom was still sleeping. Then I gently woke her up and sasked her when we were going to pick the spot. She said she will wake up when the alarm clock beeps, and we will go after having tea. Then my mom went back to sleep. I once again felt dissapointed that I had to wait for another 30 minutes. GRRRRRR!!! I can't explain to you how excited I was! I went back to sleep. And I woke up to a BEEP!!!!! And I realized it was the alarm clock. Now they were going to get up, finally! My mom and Babi bhui started to get up. They both went straight to the bathroom, to brush their teeth. After them I went to the bathroom. Babi bhui made tea for my mom and herself. Then she gave me some cereal. I ate it all up real quick. When our breakfast was finished, we went and told my dad that we were going to pick a spot for the picnic. We went out quietly so that we wouldn't wake up Meher.

We drove over to the park. And to our surprise there were already lots of people. That got us nervous. What if we wouldn't find a spot. We just hoped that we would. So we walke all around the park, trying to look for a spot. Whenever we found a spot we liked, there was a reserve sign at that area. Then finally, after a long search, we found the perfect spot. There was no reserve sign there, it was shady, and there were tables. We thought why didn't anyone pick this spot? Then we figured it out. It was very very far from the parking lot. We figured that out when we went to the car to put some stuff on the tables, just to tell people that this was our spot. But we knew we wouldn't find a spot like this anywhere. So after we were done picking a spot, we went back to Babi bhui's house to get ready. But we were really worried about the stuff we left on the tables. What if someone took them? We had no choice so we just went home. When we got home the first thing that we all didi was get ready. We were still worried about the stuff that we left on the tables. I got ready first. Then my mom, then Meher, and then my dad. Babi bhui was at the store getting some last minute stuff. When she got home she got ready too. When everyone was ready, we packed up all our things and got ready to to go to the picnic! When we got there, none from our family was there. So we unpacked eveything and set everything up.

And then we saw Makku chacha and Manjit Mamaji. Manjit Mamaaji brought salsa, mmm it was so good! And Makku Chacha helped us set the grill. Oh yeah I forgot to tell about the grill! My mom was in charge of getting a grill so we could cook stuff on it. So Makku Chacha started the grill and just in time came, Arvinder Chachi and Gurbakhsh Chachu! They had a lot of stuff and we helped them unload the stuff out of the car. And in the next our or two everyone had come! Everyone had some food to add on to the table. Soon the table was full so we started to use the other table. Everyone had fun, they played badminton, jump rope,we played cards, board games, and we also played bean bag toss! First the kids played then the adults! Wow it was fun! I won in the kid round. Since me and Raman veerji were the oldest, we had to stand really really back! And of course there was tons and tons of food! The little kids were reallly really enjoying them selves. Buji veerji and Manjit Mamaji played a game of chess. Manjit Mamaji won. I didn't get it. Too complicated! Anyways, the whole day was fun, yet tiring. I don't think I am ever going to forget this day!!! I can't wait to have a picnic like this again! Note to Manne and Ravleen didi: We missed you! Try coming next time!
